Frequently asked questions
What are the tax rates for 2026–27?
For residents: nil up to $18,200, 15% from $18,201 to $45,000, 30% to $135,000, 37% to $190,000 and 45% above $190,000. The 16% rate dropped to 15% from 1 July 2026 and is legislated to fall to 14% from 1 July 2027.
How much is the Medicare levy?
2% of taxable income. Low-income earners pay less or nothing: a single person pays no levy below $28,011 in 2026–27, and a reduced levy up to $35,014. A separate Medicare levy surcharge applies to higher earners without private hospital cover.
What is the super guarantee rate?
12% of ordinary time earnings, paid by your employer on top of your salary (unless your package includes super). From 1 July 2026, employers must pay super at the same time as wages under Payday Super.
Does the low income tax offset still apply?
Yes. The low income tax offset (LITO) is up to $700 for incomes up to $37,500, then phases out until $66,667. It is applied when you lodge your tax return.
