How much is land transfer tax in Ontario?

Ontario charges 0.5% on the first $55,000, 1% up to $250,000, 1.5% up to $400,000, 2% up to $2 million and 2.5% above $2 million on single-family homes. First-time buyers get a refund of up to $4,000.

Do you pay double land transfer tax in Toronto?

Yes. Homes in the City of Toronto pay the Ontario tax plus a Municipal Land Transfer Tax at similar rates. Since April 1, 2026, Toronto charges higher rates on homes over $3 million, rising to 8.6% above $20 million. First-time buyers can get up to $4,475 back on the municipal tax.

What is the BC first-time home buyer exemption?

Eligible first-time buyers in BC pay no property transfer tax on the first $500,000 of a home worth up to $835,000, with a partial exemption until $860,000.

Does Alberta have a land transfer tax?

No. Alberta and Saskatchewan only charge small land title registration fees based on the property value and mortgage amount.
